Our recent PTA meeting included a presentation about service learning hours in Caroline County.
6th Grade Guidance Counselor David Gibbons presented a slide show with details regarding service-learning hours, requirements, how they can be earned, and how parents can track how many have been earned.
75 service-learning hours are required in order to graduate from any school in the state of MD.
School based hours should total 55 hours, the remaining 20 hours must be earned independently.
Independent service-learning hours must be pre-approved by the school guidance counselor.
Forms for Independent Service-Learning hours can be found on the Caroline County web page.
Slides that were presented during the meeting can be found on the PTA Facebook page as well as the PTA website.
Mr. Gibbons stressed that the minimum requirement to graduate is 75. However, earning more will help when applying for scholarships and with college.
